What the app does

Kaching Checkout shows a shopper additional products right after they pay in a store that has installed the app, and lets them add one to the order they just placed with one click. The products are chosen from the store's own catalogue, by the store's own rules (funnels) or from what its customers often buy together. Shopify shows the shopper the full cost of each addition before they accept, and the shopper can always decline. The store sees the results in a dashboard inside its Shopify admin.

What we process

  • About the store (when it installs the app): its Shopify domain, name and currency, the access tokens Shopify issues to the app, the store's settings and offer rules in the app, and its plan (billing runs through Shopify; we never see card details).
  • About the store's orders (Shopify sends each new order to the app): order number, date, total, currency, sales channel, payment method name, shipping country and the products and quantities ordered. We store no customer name, e-mail address, postal address or phone number from these orders. They are used to choose offers (products often bought together, best sellers), to show the store which orders could get an offer and why not, and to count orders for the store's plan. When a store uses a discount code rule in a funnel, the codes used on the order are read from Shopify when the offer is chosen; they are not stored.
  • About the customer, only when a store uses a customer rule in a funnel: the customer's tags and number of orders in that store, read from Shopify when the offer is chosen to decide whether it applies, and not stored. For the rule "once per customer" we store a keyed one-way code made from the Shopify customer ID (never the ID itself), together with the funnel and the purchase, so that customer does not see the same funnel again. We never request a customer's name, e-mail address, postal address or phone number for this.
  • About the offer: which product was offered, at what price, and whether it was shown, clicked, declined or accepted, and when; and, when no offer could be shown, the reason. For the one-click post-purchase offer this record holds no name, e-mail address, address or payment details; it is linked to the order by Shopify's checkout reference.
  • Cart drawer and product page suggestions: anonymous daily counts of how often suggestions were seen (once per browser session) and added to the cart. No cookie, no visitor identifier and no IP address is stored with them. A product the shopper adds from a suggestion carries a hidden line property ("_kaching") so the store can see which sales the suggestions brought.

We never receive payment details. We do not sell personal data or share it with third parties for their own purposes.

Anonymous totals. We may combine figures from all stores that use the app into anonymous totals, for example how often each kind of offer or discount is accepted, to improve the app for every store. These totals contain no personal data and do not identify a store or a shopper. One store's own figures are never shown to another store or used for another store.

Like any web service, our servers keep standard request logs (time, requested address, IP address, browser type and error messages) for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for a limited period by our hosting provider and are not used to profile shoppers.

Where it is stored

On our application servers and database, run for us by a cloud hosting provider. Access is limited to the people who operate the app. Stores can ask for the name of the provider through the contact address below.

How long we keep it, and when it is deleted

  • When a store uninstalls the app, its access tokens are deleted immediately.
  • When Shopify then sends its shop data erasure request (48 hours after uninstalling), the store's install record and every offer, order, setting and rule record of that store are deleted.
  • When a store forwards a customer's erasure request through Shopify, every offer record linked to that customer's e-mail address and every "once per customer" record of that customer is deleted.
  • While the store uses the app, order, offer and suggestion records are kept for 13 months for the store's own reporting, and deleted automatically after that.

Your rights

You may ask the store you bought from to access, correct or erase the data held about you; the store passes erasure requests to us through Shopify and we act on them as described above. You can also write to us directly.

Who is responsible

Kaching Checkout is operated by Jack Reid LLC. For the data of a store's customers, the store is the controller and we process it on the store's behalf, as set out in our terms of use.
